Course Overview

This course is designed to provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to:

• Operate road/rail vehicles on track in accordance with safeworking and regulatory requirements and workplace procedures.
• Access the rail track to run a track vehicle within a defined worksite on a rail network during rail work activities. It includes accessing, running track vehicles within and exiting defined worksites.

In this course you will learn about:

  • Pre and post operational checks of road rail vehicles.
  • On and off tracking.
  • Travelling to, accessing and egressing worksites.
  • Operating road rail vehicles in accordance with manufacturers and Rail Infrastructure Managers procedures.
  • Problems that can occur when operating road rail vehicles.
  • Modifying activities depending on changes in the working environment.
  • The protocol to respond to an emergency situation.

Award Issued

Participants who are deemed competent in knowledge and
practical assessments will receive:

  • An MTM Track Vehicle Operator 1 (TVO1) Certificate of Completion.
  • The TVO Certificate of Completion is valid for two years. Applicants are required to complete a TVO1 refresher through Metro Academy after 24 months of issue of the Certificate of Completion to maintain currency.
  • A nationally recognised Statement of Attainments for the units of competency; TLIC2054 Access rail track to run track vehicle within defined worksite and TLIC3045 Operate road/rail vehicle.

Training is conducted at 1 Westgate Drive, Laverton North,
VIC3026.

Course Prerequisites

Applicants must have:

  • Completed an MTM Train Track Safety Awareness course within the last 24 months.
  • Hold TLIF2080 Safely access the rail corridor unit of competency or its successor TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor.
  • Hold a valid drivers licence.
  • Operators of road/rail vehicles may need to have applicable road and/or high risk licence or certification requirements for the type of vehicle being used.

Participants must be over the age of 18.

Participants must have a basic understanding of the English language and ability to clearly communicate with others and complete written assessment questions.

A Language, Literacy & Numeracy assessment must be completed by all candidates as part of the enrolment process to determine they have the required core skills to an appropriate level to complete the course successfully.

Participants are to provide safety boots, long sleeve shirt, long pants, hard hat, hi-vis vest, safety glasses and gloves.
